Stars & Stripes in The Last Frontier

Happy Belated Birthday America!

I hope everyone had an amazing and SAFE long weekend celebrating the Fourth of July!

We had a very rainy weekend here in Alaska but we made sure to get out and celebrate at least once this weekend!

On Sunday night we went to the Eagle River Fourth of July Celebration, which was right down the road from our house! But first…gotta get the beer! As we are walking in to the park looking for a place to sit we couldn’t help but notice not ONE person had beer…let alone a cooler! There was a 21 and over section which is where all of those people could have been…but we were meeting some friends that have a little one so we just went with it. Nobody said anything but I’m pretty sure we weren’t supposed to be drinking in the main field. Anyways…

They had quite a few vendors grilling up food, making funnel cakes and cotton candy, and then there were cupcakes! I don’t know about you guys but I love watching cupcake wars on T.V. so I was pretty excited to try one! It was pricey for this little {I thought it would be bigger} red velvet cupcake but it sure was delish!

Last year while we were celebrating the Fourth in Florida we had some friends tell us the news that they don’t always shoot fireworks in Alaska. {Bummer!!!!} The problem is that sometimes it is too dry and there is risk for starting fires.

Well, even though it was a dreary & rainy day…the plus was that they were able to shoot the fireworks for our first year here! Since the sun doesn’t really go down until 11:30pm and it doesn’t really get “dark” until about 1am the fireworks started at midnight.

It was still pretty light out and because we didn’t have much wind…it got smoky and fast!

Overall, it was a great day!

So, How Have I Been Doing With My Goals?

Not Good!

Since it has been so rainy the past week or so…my motivation has been hard to find! My workouts this week have been riding the bike, stair training, and body weight exercises at home. I need to get back into the gym TODAY! No excuses!

I’ve been trying to drink more water but so far I’m only at a glass(ish) a day. I’m thinking about setting an alarm on my phone as a reminder.

I started looking up healthier meals to make but haven’t acted on them yet.

What I HAVE been doing is practicing my guitar everyday. I don’t quite have a full song down yet but stay tuned because that video will be coming in no time!

I did add another goal this weekend. I’m going to teach myself how to crochet. Whew…I’m not sure that I can keep up with all of these goals of mine! Since I’m still playing housewife I’m stir crazy and keep finding new things to keep me occupied.

Speaking of playing housewifegood news! I landed a phone interview, which went very well! There are still a few things they have to do paperwork wise and then I’ll hopefully be starting soon!

It’s not that bad this week! As soon as I started to feel anxious {which was usually when we were being lazy watching T.V.} I would get up and clean the house or practice the guitar and it would go away.

So Tell Me!

How did you celebrate your Fourth of July this year?

Do you have any tips to help me drink more water?

What are some of your goals that you are trying to work on right now?

Oops! I Can’t believe I forgot to post my Fourth of July craft project! It’s nothing super fancy or hard to do…I just needed something festive! All you need is a wire wreath, some clothespins, red/white/blue paint, and precut stars {I cut my own}. If you would like to see the tutorial I followed go here.

  1. Congrats on the interview Kati!
We didn’t make the big fireworks this year , but saw lots of small ones… No chance of fires as we have also had nothing but rain for days..⛈
Speaking of water …. Highly recommend lemons, limes, oranges, strawberries and cucumbers to make it a little more interesting.. 🍊🍋🍓

Thanks for the update ! Talk to you soon

    • Thank you!!
Good to know we aren’t the only ones getting inundated with water!
Speaking of fires…Port St Joe actually had a bad one this year from people doing their own fireworks on the beach. It was just a few miles from our beach too! So sad..
That’s a good idea! I may have to go get some fresh fruit and try that!

      Talk you you guys soon!

  2. Carry a water bottle or cup with a straw with you all the time. You drink more with a straw and if the waters with you, you will be more likely to drink it. Good luck!!! Water is so good for you!!!!
